Design making custom glass gobos

I am fortunate enough to know someone who has a laser cutter and will let me use it on occasion. I was first hoping of making my own metal gobos, but this cutter can not handle metal. However, it can do glass. I would like to try this, but before I begin, what type of glass should i use?

Cutting glass isn't going to be very effective for you. The light is still going to shine through it....

True, but best case scenario you might get some good grey-scale textures using the right glass.

I am going to guess that it would be incredibly difficult to do all the optical work to get a decent looking glass gobo done up by yourself. Never done it before, but im sure its very hard.

If you're going to try it use borosilicate glass. About 1mm in thickness.

BTW, the stuf ain't cheap. A 17" x 17" x 1.1mm sheet runs about $ 60.00
