SD9 Talkback Sounds Terrible

Hi guys,
Ive got a Beta 58 plugged into the talkback input of my SD9 and sending to my monitors and It sounds terrible. No matter what the mix of mic gain and talkback send level it sounds extremely shallow and horrible. Does anyone have any idea why this might be? The channel is completely flat and I have tried to make it more audible using the EQ but its a clunky solution that doesn't really work.

Isn't that always how B58's sound????

Could be a loose connection in the desk. Odds are it is on the physical side if the mic and cable are good... and I assume they are. Have you tried patching another preamp into the talkback bus? I can't remember if that desk can do that or not. Does that still do it?

What he said. Plus, don't overlook the possibility that the mic itself is broken.
