Control/Dimming Unison Dimming architectural LEDs

OK we have a Unison rack in our small space and awe redoing the house lights the architect has specked out 3 different LED lights to be used and wants to just run them into the D20 dimmers. My experience in the past is that traditional Leds that are plugged into a voltage dimming system eater flicker or have other problems. does anyone know how to check for sure that theses fixtures will work with the D20 voltage dimming system?

Anyone have experience with this?

Mains dimming will never be good but at least the acuity unit is designed for constant power and data. You or your architect need help and the benefit of experience.

It looks like the first two options are only dimmable via 0-10V control, so they could work if the plan is to run additional wire to each fixture for low-voltage control. They definitely will not dim correctly if you just connect it to a D20 and treat it like an incandescent lamp. The third product specifically says "not dimmable" under the Special Features category in Product Information. You could probably get away with setting the dimmer in switched mode and turning it on and off, but that's it.

Running low voltage control (either 0-10V or DMX) to the fixtures is the best option for good dimming, but can often be a challenge in a retrofit. If you're stuck with line-voltage dimming, then look for a fixture that uses Lutron's A-Series drivers. If you can find something suitable that uses that driver, then ETC can help you make the necessary changes to your dimming system to make it work tolerably well.

There is another item to watch on 0-10V. If you read the Acuity spec sheet driver list you'll see that one dims to black and another doesn't. If the driver doesn't dim to black then you have to switch off the raw power to get blackness. And then some fixtures will flash a bit when turning back on, even if to minimum level.

Some line dimming fixtures do better on an ELV10 module that, depending on Unison age, you can swap out for a D20.

I agree, you need help from an expert.

Take some time and watch this recent presentation about dimming and LED retrofit lamps at ETC's recent conference:

Then this will answer if ETC has tested (within the last year), and what they think of the performance of various retrofit LED lamps:

And do get in contact with a theatre consultant who will work for your venues best interest. ETC's headquarters are also quite close in Middleton, WI.
