    Done with DeWalt?

We use the Makita 20v cordless drills/impact drivers in our shop. They are great tools that keep kicking with daily heavy use. After about 5 years, the batteries have mostly been replaced because the charge level is probably about 60% of original. A couple arbors have started slipping a...

    What's your go-to pencil?

Dixon Ticonderoga #2 HB is my normal desk pencil. Cheaper pencils tend to have a nasty hard eraser that leaves a pink smear when erasing. For drafting, I like the Alvin DraftLine pencils: cheap and comfortable. For the shop, pretty much anything that will write and hold a point, I usually use...

    Stadium Help

I know this probably isn't the best way to do it, but when we did a similar thing at my old high school, we would just use 10-12 SM58's with the big wind screens on an array of boom stands so we could get a decent signal from every section. Wind was never an issue, and we already had all the...

Sound f/x looking for music people associate with hell

Those Jet Moto Tracks bring back a lot of good memories...I second the "Dies Irae." Another one that kind of says hell is "Daemon Irrepit Callidus." One of my favorites. It sounds very hellish on a recording where they took the tempo really fast. Here it is a la youtube:

    Sub-woofer decision....

Take a good look at the Yamaha Club Series. It's really solid gear at a nice price. If you're looking to keep the pair together, you might want to consider a dual sub cabinet like the Yamaha SW218V. If you'd prefer the single woofer version, check out the SW118V. I've seen the 218 in action...

    Compressors/Gates in Live Music

Hello All, The whole crew was really excited when we could finally dump the old Behringer board for the brand new LS9. Well, now the new gear ecstacy has subsided a little bit, and we're working on ways to really use the new board in a way that will improve the sound coming out of the...

    LS9 Crossover?

Hello, At the venue I'm working at, we have a 4-way EAW KF850 System for our mains that we've been running with an EAW 4-way crossover and a Behringer (I know, I know) Eurodesk. After a lot of convincing, we now have a Yamaha LS9 which is here and ready to be used. My question is, since I...

    Sound Test

I actually loaded the CD on my old mp3 player which had just enough room for all the .wav files(It's a Creative Zen, so it plays pretty much any file format). Set the eq's to flat. Ran it directly through an RTA to calibrate it, and now it lives in my gig bag.

    Theater etiquette

I know a guy who goes to shows at a local place regularly. I went with him once. Somebody's cell phone went off two seats down. He took it, turned it off, and didn't give it back until the end of the show. Now, if more patrons were like him...

    Ideas on a cyc look

If you have the space and your cyc isn't way too thick, projecting one color from the front and the other from the rear helps eliminate color mixing. It works well on our cyc, but not all cyc's are created equal. If you have time, try it out, it might just do the trick.

    Traynor-Yorkville MX-16

Hey all. I'll be picking up one of these desk mixers on a trade pretty soon. I've seen it and used it on a gig to try it out and it seems fine, but I can't find much of anything about it online. They made it around 1972-76, but it didn't do well. On the Traynor website, they seem to deny its...

    stubborn screw in an xlr

Thanks a ton. The only cables I'd had to fix before were cheapies with poor connectors. yet the screws on those ones make sense...

    stubborn screw in an xlr

Hey, I have a couple cables that have been sitting around waiting for repair. I sat down to fix them today and the 2 choke screws came out fine, but the screw that holds the set of pins(a male connector) will not unscrew. I can get it turning, but it won't come out. So I tried the second...

Selling custom audio cables on EBAY?

not to mention, competing with companies who boast big warranties on their products. In this market, you will definitely get some calls about cable breakage, not matter how good you are at soldering. If you really like doing it though, who's to stop you? Get your name out there locally...
