LEDs

Has anyone ever experimented with these? Im planning on getting one to experiment and see what it could do as a blinder type fixture. Im thinking of trying one in an old fresnel. Im sure its going to take work to get the beam to look smooth, but im thinking that this might have some serious potential. Thoughts?

Make sure you use proper heat sinking and a constant current power supply.

Hummm... Wonder how much they are going for? I suspect they are not cheap so be careful with your power source. LEDs are unforgiving.

As was already said.. heatsinking is going to be a problem. However, I'm also curious the price and the efficiency (lumens per watt) if you decide to get one. It might be easier to deal with an array of smaller LEDs like the Cree's or Rebel's. It spreads the heat generation out over a larger area, and I think they're among the highest efficiency LED's available.
