A am building boxes for a show that have to have lights inside to illuminate the transparent side with out plugging into something. My google search found nothing usable. Does anyone have some suggestions? I would prefer to rent rather than by if possible.
Sounds like a job for EL Panels. Though I don't think you will find it rentable. If it is in your budget you could make them pretty cheap depending on your box sizes.
Typically, an RC4Magic DMX4dim is wired to an LED light source inside the box. I would use LED tape, either along the inside edges facing in, or around a cylinder in the center. Frosted panels take care of diffusion.
Our App Specialist, Sean Dane, has helped several people do exactly this. Reach out to him at [email protected] or 816-359-3273.
P.S. We do have an RC4 rental program. You'll need to build the boxes and buy the LEDs; it's not all that expensive or complex, as far as props building goes.
Depending on your budget there are dozens of choices. Those listed here are great there are also TONS of kits, wireless dmx included, available if you are willing to design and construct a system yourself. Look at some sites like AdaFruit, or other 'Maker' sites.
Do you have regular wireless DMX? If you can be big and heavy, just run the AC gear off a lead acid battery and a DC/AC inverter. Stick a LEDPAR in the box!
(but I don't really know what you are building, a large bit of a set or a glowing cube that will sit in an actor's hand?)
