The relay is a neat feature. I actually unknowingly copied the concept when I converted my VL500's from 80v versions to mains dimming. I bypassed the dimmer module and connected the lamp leads to a relay I hid in the fixture's base. The relays I used have a 120v coil which I connected to an already-existing terminal block. Then I drilled out some unused port and added a whip. So far, it has been working great and the fixtures have been used on a few productions. I guess it was my "ah-ha" moment since I had one dead 80v dimmer and didn't want a set of mismatch fixtures (nor part with an otherwise reliable VL!)
