Over the last week I've been messing with some various emulators, and controllers for PC that can map out onto DMX, if you have the USB to DMX converter.
I sent the question to my TD, and he said to send it over to my venue director and okay it with him.
My venue director says it's okay, and fine to go, and to just have my TD order the converter.
Now, being in a position of power here, I would like everyone's opinions on this, that way we can decide what would be the best for our setup.
We run an ETC Express 48/96 (In the future, probably an Ion, but that is not confirmed, nor happening for a while, also why this got approved) and a Strand CD-80 dimmer system with 144 dimmers, and 4 Martin MX-4 units. (The inventory of moving lights is expected to expand over the next few years)
My idea was, that I load up a program such as MagicQ (This is the one that I have been messing around with lately) onto the Macbook we have for crew (Runs QLab, and such programs) and use it through that.
My other idea was to bring in some of my own equipment (It would be labeled, of course) and use it through that. The reason I'm thinking about bringing my own equipment in, is because I have a touchscreen monitor that could work well with a program like that.
So, at this point it is the USB to DMX converter that we're looking into. It'd have to work on both PC and Mac. I'm looking at the Enttec DMX USB pro.
If you've used these, what is your opinion?
