Ghost Effect

I am currently involved in a production of A Christmas Carol and production team asked me, the lighting designer/special effects, if there was any lighting effect or other special effect to create the Ghost of Christmas future. Any ideas on how to go about this?

Although this isn't a lighting effect, I saw a high production where the actor in the Ghost of Christmas Future costume was given added height by wearing plasterer's stilts.

I've used in the past the obvious dull colored oversized cloak w/ hood, & just enough iridescence to give the costume a bit of shimmer andhit the actor w/ a top BWL (BIG WHITE LIGHT).Washout the rest of the stage and dimly light Eb (I preferred a pale blue on Eb and strong ambers around the gravestone hitting it with a pinspot)- and you have a pretty darn cool effect. It is a shame my old PC died with my photos.

That's just how I have done it.

You could try top lighting them with a no color blue (R60) with an ellipsoidal or narrowly focused fresnel.
