Lycian stand fix

Our theater has a couple Lycrian Clubspots. I realize the stands are not the same build as their ball-bearing bigger brothers, but does anyone have an suggestions for making the stand a little better. The pan seems ok, but there is often flakes of metal under the stand from the collar riding on the pipe. I'm thinking thrust bearing there would help. The tilt itself works fine, but there is wobble/bounce in the stand pipe. If I tighten the pan knob, it is better, but obviously the pan is gone. Starting and stopping a pan or tilt always shows a jerk on stage (the light, not the talent). We live with it, but just curious what others think.

If it's anything like our Altman Comet stands (small tube inside bigger tube) I understand your plight. I've thought about machining a piece of HDPE or UHMW to use as a bushing. Even cheaper/easier (and as a proof-of-concept), maybe a thick Buna O-ring would suffice.
