Moving head on a tripod

What’s your opposition to a 10’ stick of truss and a 2 x 3 base plate with a pipe at the top? It would be the same footprint at the bottom.

Regardless if the tripod is rated to hold the weight go for it but any kind of movement could spill it as you have the tripod loaded heavy on one side with the mover. Even with a sandbag stack it only takes one kid to say hey watch this and swing it like it’s rock n roll.

Depends a lot on where it is, as others have noted.

You'll need a *really sturdy* tripod, like an old ITE, designed for 100lbs of camera and prompter, to avoid torquing the tripod as you move the light, although that's less important on a light than on a camera. As long as the moving fixture is centered, and attached with a 5/8-18 (or maybe that's -16?), you can probably get away with this.

But like Amiers says: why not just truss?
