Have too many Source Four 19 deg.

Can I change the barrel in a 19 degree Source Four to a 50 or 36 degree barrell. I have all 19 degrees. I need at least a couple of larger angles for specialty work. Also where could I sell or trade a couple of those lights.

Tubes in all fixed-angle (5°/10°/14°/19°/26°/36°/50°/70°/90°) Source Four fixtures are interchangeable. There is one knob on the tube that, when removed, allows the tube to be separated from the fixture. All you need to do to swap tubes is remove that knob, remove the tube, put the new tube into the fixture, and tighten down the knob into the new tube. It's a pretty simple process.

Instead of trying to sell the fixtures, if you really don't want to hold onto your 19° tube, talk to some theatres nearby and ask them if anyone is looking for a couple more 19° tubes in exchange for a few of couple for their 36°'s or 50°'s -- maybe toss up a Craigslist ad or post to the CB Classifieds as well.

Just a couple months ago here on CB, someone 30 minutes from me posted that they didn't want their 50°'s and needed 26°'s. It just so happened that we had an impractical number of 26°'s and not nearly enough 50°'s, so we did a 1:1 trade, their tubes for ours. Everyone is happier and no money has been spent by either party.

One Internet dealer, newlighting.com, has new lens tubes for $140. Sister company usedlighting.com has the same tubes used, for $79.

If budget is limited, rather than purchase new lens tubes, one can replace just the lens(es) in 19°-50° tubes. It's four Phillips-head screws, takes five minutes. The 36° takes two lenses, the others take one. Lenses are available from your friendly local dealer.

ETC Part# Description: MSRP (May not be current):
7060A4077 Aspheric lens, 19° $61.46
7060A4001 Aspheric lens, 26° $56.10
7060A4020 Meniscus lens (front), 36° $33.05
7060A4021 Bi-convex lens (back), 36° $33.05
7060A4004 Aspheric lens, 50° $56.10

Tip: Order extra
7060A4012 Pad, lens support $0.14
as you're likely to misplace a few in the process of changing lenses.
Another tip: If you go this route, be sure to re-label the lens tube clearly. The identifying stickers can be ordered separately as well.
7060A4033 19º Lens tube label, white text (for black fixtures) $0.25
7060A4034 26º Lens tube label, white text (for black fixtures) $0.25
7060A4035 36º Lens tube label, white text (for black fixtures) $0.25
7060A4036 50º Lens tube label, white text (for black fixtures) $0.25

Sources for Used Equipment - ControlBooth , but you're likely to lose money on the deal, as opposed to $50 or so per fixture for new lenses.

As long as we're on the subject, see the thread Lens tube/Lens barrel.

When you order seperate lenses to fit into an existing lens tube make sure to quote the Revision level of the Lens tube. I own a number of ninteen degree fixtures and I know I have two different diameter of 19 degree lenses - I do not know if the diameter of the other lenses is the same for every tube as I have never checked. Certainly worth talking to ETC for part number confirmation befeore ordering lenses through a dealer.
