An interesting dimmer issue

just wanted to share a recent issue.

We run a large number of ETC smart packs /smart bars in our facility ( but I assume this would apply to any three phase system.

We had the power turned off from the transformer to the building for some exterior work. After power was connected, I noticed that some of the dimmers were acting as non-dims. Ie they popped to ful at either 1% or 50%. A bit more digging and we discovered that the dimmers on phase two were consistently having this problem.

After talking with etc tech support, we were able to fix the issue by turning the power off and back onto each unit. My suspicion is that when the power was being connected they did a hot hookup and connected one leg at a time.

Take away. If you have wired dimmer issues as described, at least try a power cycle first.
